Treating malnutrition, saving young lives

At our mobile clinics in Malawi, we see far too many severely malnourished children who are so weak, in urgent need of help.

Malnutrition weakens the immune system, leaving children dangerously vulnerable to infection.
It is a major contributory factor of death in under five children.
The great news is we have Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) a treatment that really works.
It is a lifesaving, nutrient-rich paste that helps severely malnourished children regain strength and recover.
It is easy for the children to take, does not need refrigeration, does not require water.
That means it can be given safely at home, making it ideal for families living in remote villages.
Because we see so many severe cases, we must always keep ample supplies in stock because when a child needs treatment, there must be no delay.

It costs £10 per week to treat a severely malnourished child, and the average course of treatment is 5 weeks.

So £50 will provide a full course of life-saving treatment for a child.

The direct annual costs per child is just £465.

We have so far registered 52 children in critical need of support.
