Rescuing children from sexual exploitation

There is no comfortable way to describe what we have uncovered at Nkhotakota in Malawi – but as an organization dedicated to caring for children, it is something we cannot ignore.

It was at our children’s clinics that we came across issues that demanded further investigation, so our Malawi clinical team performed a survey and found sexual exploitation throughout the entire district.

Children as young as 12 are involved; none have chosen this life; all have been driven to this life by grinding poverty – many are from child headed households and suffer so that their siblings can eat tomorrow.

These are real people, innocent lives being shattered, childhoods stolen and futures dimmed before they even begin – we can help them escape from this nightmare.

Yet, we have found that even in their darkest moments, these children cling to dreams of returning to school and a normal life – and with your help we can truly make it happen.

Economic safety net at £298 per year: The critical element for the success of the programme; a structured financial support system. All are from broken homes, either left with an elderly grandparent or for many, they are the sole provider in a child-headed household for their younger siblings.
Education at £97 per year: Secondary education in Malawi is not free and this the total cost including uniforms and books.
Pocket money at £70 per year: For personal needs and occasional little treats.
Medical care and Emotional Recovery: Alongside the medical care from our clinicians, our Nurse Counsellors will provide vital guidance to help them heal from past traumas.
Confidence Building: Gaining the ability to communicate, the confidence to stand up for themselves and a sense of self-worth will be a key part of the programme.

The direct annual costs per child is just £465.

We have so far registered 52 children in critical need of support.

Our target is to raise £24,180 to transform their lives.
