My Story and why I'm fundraising for World Medical Fund for Children

I began training for my first marathon just over three years ago. Since then, I’ve trained consistently, become a little faster, and am more thoughtful and savvy about preparation and have embraced the process!
I am incredibly honoured and excited to be running the London Marathon for the World Medical Fund (WMF). For nearly thirty years WMF has been delivering medical care to children in rural Malawi (a very poor country in southeastern Africa). They have treated children with illnesses that are often easily and inexpensively managed with the right diagnostic skills and medicine available. Quite simply, they have been saving children’s lives.

The Future - Reaching the Child No One Else Can

In the remote villages far from Malawi’s tarmac roads, a simple childhood illness can so easily become a tragedy. With no transport, no nearby clinic, and no doctor to call, too many children still die unseen and untreated.

Our mobile clinics already bring free healthcare to thousands of children every month — a proven, cost-effective lifeline that saves lives across Nkhotakota District. Yet the challenge remains: what happens to a child who falls sick between clinic visits?

We are developing an innovative new solution — and it will feature direct delivery by drone of lifesaving medicines to the child — to ensure no child is left without help when they need it most.

More updates to follow as this exciting new project takes flight…

The direct annual costs per child is just £465.

We have so far registered 52 children in critical need of support.

Our target is to raise £24,180 to transform their lives.

Thank you.
