We initially thought we had missed the storm that caused so much damage in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi but it struck on a Tuesday night around midnight.

Our security guards first priority was to make sure the medical students with us were in a safe place and the great news is no one was injured in our compound.

The storm raged for some hours and the damage to our medical centre, offices and vehicles was heart-breaking to see.

Office equipment including computers was damaged, some beyond repair. Initial estimates of the total cost of the repairs was in the region of £30,000.

We engaged a trusted builder to commence work straight away and it is still ongoing.
